Summer Internship with Latino Community Credit Union
Matias Mora, Daytime MBA 2026
This summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Retail Product Analyst Intern at Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU), a nonprofit financial institution dedicated to serving underserved communities. My main project focused on a comprehensive retail products pricing review, where I analyzed service fees, account bundles, and competitive benchmarks to help the organization align financial sustainability with member impact.
Throughout the internship, I proactively sought out data and built strong collaborations with the finance and operations teams to validate my findings. By applying my skills in data analysis, pricing strategy, and financial modeling, I was able to uncover insights that informed new fee waiver structures and product recommendations. Beyond the numbers, I learned how deeply rewarding it is to work in an organization where success is measured not only in revenue, but also in the positive impact on members’ lives.
Equally important, I translated my research into a clear, actionable presentation for senior leadership. This required leveraging my communication and storytelling skills to ensure that my recommendations were not only understood, but could also be smoothly implemented by the full-time team.
This experience reinforced my belief that all business roles, whether in nonprofits or global corporations, carry the responsibility of building a better society. Moving forward, I plan to apply this mindset, along with the analytical and communication skills I strengthened at LCCU, to my future roles in product management and strategy, where both financial results and human impact must be considered in decision-making.
This internship was supported by the Summer Internship Fund, which enables first-year Duke MBA students to learn about the rewards and challenges of using business to drive positive impact without making a significant financial sacrifice. The program enables organizations that otherwise could not afford to hire MBA student interns to benefit from students’ expertise. Funds are raised through student fundraising and from donors who believe in the mission of the program. If you would like to contribute, you can donate online using your credit card.
