Summer Internship with Vontier Corporation
Utibe Obot, Daytime MBA 2026
This summer, I interned at Vontier Corporation, a Fortune 500 industrial technology company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, as an MBA Finance Intern. I worked with the Internal Audit team on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance testing, walkthroughs, and control evaluations, helping to assess the design and effectiveness of key internal controls. I also supported the preparation of audit workpapers and documentation, and gained practical experience with tools such as AuditBoard, DataSnipper, and Snowflake, which improved the efficiency and accuracy of audit testing.
The internship allowed me to put into practice many of the skills I have been developing during my MBA. I applied analytical and problem-solving approaches to evaluate controls, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. I also learned the value of process improvement and how digital tools can simplify what would otherwise be repetitive or time-consuming tasks. Just as important, I had the chance to collaborate closely with colleagues across functions, which highlighted how communication, adaptability, and teamwork are central to making finance work effectively within a large organization.
Looking ahead, I plan to build on these experiences as I return to Fuqua for my second year and prepare for the next step in my career. The internship confirmed my interest in finance and strategy, and it gave me a clearer view of how risk management, internal controls, and compliance connect to long-term corporate value creation. I am excited to use what I learned to help organizations strengthen their systems, manage risk, and drive sustainable growth.
This internship was supported by the Summer Internship Fund, which enables first-year Duke MBA students to learn about the rewards and challenges of using business to drive positive impact without making a significant financial sacrifice. The program enables organizations that otherwise could not afford to hire MBA student interns to benefit from students’ expertise. Funds are raised through student fundraising and from donors who believe in the mission of the program. If you would like to contribute, you can donate online using your credit card.
